1. What kind of residence is Sherwood House?

Sherwood House is an independent living residence for seniors. Our mission is to assist seniors in remaining as independent as possible, for as long as possible, with some supportive services in place to ensure comfort and quality of living.

2. Who operates Sherwood House?

Sherwood House is owned and operated by the Jones Family. Originally by Norm Jones (since retired) and now by his Son Jeff, and Daughter Nancy.

3. What makes Sherwood House different from other retirement communities?

Sherwood House is owned and operated locally in British Columbia. The owners take pride in their involvement in day to day operations

4. Is Sherwood House independent or assisted living?

Sherwood House is an independent living building. This means that a resident moving into the building, must be living independently and be safe in their apartment on their own. As residents age in place, and care services are required for activities of daily living, they must be provided personally. This would be either through Island Health and Home Support, or through private care providers. Sherwood House does not provide this type of care.

Suites & Amenities

5. What types of suites are available?

Sherwood House has three 2-bedroom units and 59 1-bedroom units. We have 20 premium units that include an oven and in-suite laundry. Laundry rooms are provided on every floor, free of charge.

6. Do all suites have balconies?

All of the suites have balconies.

7. Do any suites have in-suite laundry or full kitchens?

The premium suites include in-suite laundry facilities and full kitchens.

8. Can I bring my own furniture or hang pictures on the wall?

At Sherwood House, your suite is your home. You bring your own furnishings, and of course you are welcome to hang your cherished pictures in your space.

9. Are pets welcome?

Your pet (up to 10kg) is welcome at Sherwood House, as long as you are able to provide for its needs.

10. Is smoking allowed anywhere on the property?

Smoking is not permitted on the property.

Dining & Activities

11. Are meals included in the rent?

All meals are included in your monthly fee. Continental Breakfast (Self Served), and Chef prepared Lunch and dinner served fine dining style in the dining room.

12. Can I eat in my suite instead of the dining room?

If you are ill or isolating to your suite, meals will be delivered to you on a tray. If you decide that you would rather eat in your suite for another reason, the cost for tray delivery is $4 per tray.

13. Can family or friends join me for a meal?

You can invite family or friends to join you for a meal anytime. We request 48 hours notice, to give the chef a chance to prepare for extra guests. The cost for Lunch is $8.50 and Dinner is $15

14. What kinds of activities and entertainment are offered?

Our Activity Coordinator arranges a fine selection of activities to keep you engaged. There are exercise programs, Arts and Crafts, Live entertainment and dancing, Movies, and more.

Registration & Waitlist

15. How do I register to join the waitlist?

You can register online through this website, or come in and pick up an information package from the front desk.

16. Is there a registration or damage deposit?

There is no cost to register for the waitlist, and you do not lose your place on the list if you decline a unit. We understand that timing is important in all of life’s big decisions.

17. How long is the waitlist?

The waitlist for suites at Sherwood House is extensive, so it is best to get your name on the list early.

18. What happens after I register?

After you complete the registration, you will be added to the waitlist and called when a suite becomes available for you. If you like a tour of Sherwood House, please call the front desk at 250-737-1458 and ask to be put on the list for the next group tour, or arrange for a private showing.

Living at Sherwood

19. Is transportation available for errands or appointments?

Unfortunately we are not able to provide transportation for appointments or errands, but we are in a convenient location in downtown Duncan with its wealth of pharmacies, shops and restaurants.

20. Are scooters or wheelchairs allowed inside?

We have two scooter garages located on the North end of the building. Of course wheelchairs and walkers are allowed in the building at all times.

21. Can guests stay overnight?

This is your home, and guests are welcome to come and stay for short periods of time.

Costs & Payments

22. What is included in the monthly rent?

Your monthly fee includes: Heat, Hydro, Meals, Weekly Housekeeping, Flat linen service, LifeLine, 24 hour first responders and Activities,

23. Are there any extra fees?

You are responsible for your own Cable, Internet and telephone expenses

24. How is rent paid each month?

Rent is paid on the 1st of each month via pre-authorized debit.

25. How can I book a tour?

Call the front desk at 250-737-1458 to book either the monthly group tour, or to arrange a private tour.

26. Can I take a virtual tour online?

The virtual tour is pretty amazing, and is available through the link on this website.
